  • Known as India’s ‘Garden City’, Bangalore is a pleasant metropolis with extensive gardens. Situated 1000 metres above sea level, it has one of the best year-round climate in the country. The city is a delightful mix of the traditional and the modern. It has silks and sandalwood, golf courses and pubs, historical monuments, bustling shopping areas and serene lakes and parks.
  • First, you will be taken to visit Nrityagram. ‘Nritya’ means dance and ‘Gram’ means village. Nrityagram is a dance school with the gurukul tradition (residential teaching program, way of life). This eco-friendly dance village is located about 30 minutes from Bangalore.
  • The school follows a guru-shishya tradition and the students help their teachers in gardening and other works in the premises. It was started by the famous Odissi dancer Protima Bedi in the year 1990. Today, the school has created a place for itself in the world of performing arts. The dance ensemble of Nrityagram has performed in many parts of India as well as in other countries. It has also won many awards.
  • Dance forms that are taught here include Odissi, Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and Manipuri. The school also conducts workshops on yoga, theatre, literature, etc. Eminent dancers and artists from around the world regularly visit the school.
  • Visitors get a tour of Nrityagram and also see a small dance recital.
  • After visiting Nrityagram, enjoy a tour of Bangalore city. Bangalore Palace was built by the Wodeyar rulers of Mysore over 100 years ago resembling the medieval castles in Normandy and England. The City Fort is in a much deteriorated state, however the ornately decorated 18th century Tipu Sultan's Palace has survived. The Bull Temple here is a marvellous example of the Dravidian style of architecture. It has a huge monolithic Bull which is revered for being the 'vahana' (vehicle) of Lord Shiva. The beautiful Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens contain rare and exotic flowers and plants. These gardens are said to have been developed and laid out almost two centuries ago by the then ruler of the region.
