  • The Asfi Masjid or the Bara Imambara is best known architectural masterpiece of Lucknow. It stands in a large enclosure, with an attached mosque and a great ornamental gate, the Rumi Darwaza. A point to be noted about this monument is its charming labyrinth, supporting the roof of the edifice, which is locally called the bhul-bhulaiya.
  • Also known as the Chota, or the small Imambara, Hussainabad Imambara was built by Muhammad Ali Shah in 1837 to serve his own mausoleum. The large courtyard encloses a raised rectangular tank with small imitations of the Taj Mahal on each side.
  • The British occupation of Lucknow was another chapter in the history of the city. The Residency was built by the British to house their troops and officials. Most of it was destroyed during the 1857 Mutiny, which saw heavy troop movement in Lucknow.
