In 640 AD, when another Chinese traveler Huien Tsang, visited here, Sarnath had more than 1500 priests.
  • Since then Sarnath was reduced to insignificance and left in ruins. It was as late as 1836, when British archaeologists started excavations, that Sarnath regained some of its past glory.
  • Sarnath Museum is closed on Fridays.
